Report points out patterns of aggression against journalists in El Salvador

"The University Observatory of Human Rights of the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas [in El Salvador] (OUDH, by its Spanish acronym) shared its annual report on freedom of the press and access to public information for the year 2022. It warns of patterns of attacks on journalists and setbacks in the exercise of journalism, access to information, and abuses by the authorities.

According to Jorge Rodríguez, coordinator of OUDH, violations against journalists such as espionage and gender-based violence were documented, which also led to the exile of some journalists as a result of threats received. In addition, legal reforms were carried out that undermine freedom of the press and put obstacles to access to information as a guarantor of state control."
