“Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has launched a new project in Central America to address the decline in press freedom in the region. The initiative seeks to strengthen support for journalists facing persecution, threats or forced exile, as well as to promote accountability from governments that systematically violate the right to inform.
From March 17 to 25, RSF carried out a mission to El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica, countries where independent journalism operates in increasingly adverse contexts. The organization held meetings with key actors of civil society, state agencies and local journalists, with the aim of coordinating emergency strategies, strengthening support networks and consolidating alliances with press freedom organizations.
The initiative includes legal assistance, humanitarian aid and training programs for journalists at risk, as well as technical support for independent media outlets.”
