“Article 19 – Office for Mexico and Central America warned of a second attack this year on digital media in Mexico. Since Feb. 4, the website of media outlet MTP Noticias in Puebla has been the victim of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. This is the second attack of this type documented this year, [after the attack on Semanario Zeta in January].
[...] On Feb. 4 at around noon, Elvia Cruz López, general manager of the newspaper, noticed that the website was loading slower than usual. This continued the following day. Employees of the media outlet reviewed the site's traffic analysis report and identified that the portal had been flooded with an atypical number of access requests. It was presumed that it was a DDoS attack, in which perpetrators seek to overwhelm the server.
[...] In recent weeks MTP Noticias has documented cases of corruption [...] According to the testimony of someone from the media outlet, in recent weeks three individuals requested that some articles be removed from the website, both by phone call and in person."
