"ARTICLE 19 condemns the arbitrary detention of Carlos Milanés, an independent journalist for ADN Cuba, Cubanet and Radio Martí, on May 25 this year in Havana, by State Security agents. The incident was compounded by multiple aggressions such as threats of disappearance, physical aggressions, a raid on his home and the destruction of several personal items.
On May 25, around 10:00 a.m., the journalist was outside his sister's home in Old Havana when he noticed a State Security patrol car and a motorcycle approaching him. They detained him violently and put him in the vehicle where they held him for about 20 minutes to interrogate him about his relationship with activists of the Patriotic Union of Cuba and whether he was aware of the upcoming demonstrations of this same group."
