The disappearance of journalists in Mexico lies between impunity and silence

"The International Day against the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, which was commemorated on Aug. 30, is a transcendental day to make visible the people, men and women who have been subjected to this inhumane practice. Also for their families, who have taken on a heroic struggle to find their relatives. Journalists are also part of this tragedy.

In this context, it is worth remembering that Reporters Without Borders and Propuesta Cívica presented a report on Nov. 2021, which was revisited in April 2022 by the UN Committee against Enforced Disappearances, in its report on Mexico. It expressed its 'concern for the disappearance of more than 30 journalists between 2003 and 2021. Of these, none have been located and no progress has been made in the investigation or punishment of those responsible. This situation constitutes a serious threat to freedom of expression and to society's right to be informed,' it stated."
