"The wage gap, the lack of social security and the long hours of work constitute three of the numerous factors by which journalists in the Dominican Republic decide to leave their career or move to other sectors such as the State or public relations. (.. .) According to a publication called Analysis of media development in the Dominican Republic — prepared in 2017 by a team of journalists together with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) — the aforementioned factors , together with dangerous work without due protection and multiple jobs, affect the quality of life and the practice of journalism in that Caribbean nation."
