“[…] Given the crisis that hit the media industry more than a decade ago, it is more difficult for [local media] to create sustainable business models and keep up with digital tools that provide new narrative formats and resources to connect with their audiences.
To support them in this process, the Gabo Foundation and the Google News Initiative launch 'Innovation and local journalism in Latin America,' an ambitious project that offers exchange of knowledge, references and mentoring to native digital media in Latin America focused on the coverage of local issues and whose newsrooms are made up of a maximum of 10 journalists. The programming is based on training needs identified in a survey of 343 reporters and editors who practice local journalism in the region.”
