“Three years ago, Ecuadoran President Lenín Moreno confirmed the deaths of Javier Ortega, Paúl Rivas and Efraín Segarra, journalistic team of the newspaper El Comercio. During these years, the Colombian State has repeatedly failed the families of the victims. Truth, justice and reparation are absent in this case.
The [Colombian] Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP, for it acronym in Spanish) represents the families of the victims in the process of seeking justice in Colombia. The investigations do not show significant progress and only one conviction has been imposed against those responsible. In October of last year, a process of direct reparation began in order to declare the responsibility of the Colombian State."
