The prestigious John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford University and the Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University have announced the journalists selected for their 2025–2026 cohorts.
Latin America will be represented by just one professional in each program — both from Brazil.
The JSK fellowship selected Sérgio Spagnuolo, executive director of the news site Núcleo Jornalismo, as one of its 16 participants. Meanwhile, the Nieman Foundation chose Simone Iglesias, a Bloomberg reporter based in Brasília, who will focus on a project analyzing China's influence in Brazil and South America.
These fellowships are considered excellent development opportunities for journalists. Depending on the program, participants may devote time to academic studies or personal projects. Each initiative has its own timeline and purpose.
Most fellowship programs open applications at the end of the year, and the LatAm Journalism Review compiles an annual list of these opportunities.
