Two stations run by opposition mayor in Venezuela are shut down

"The National Telecommunications Commission of Venezuela (Conatel, by its Spanish acronym) shut down the Kalor 101.9 FM station, based in Acarigua, in the state of Portuguesa, on  Dec. 28. The news outlet was run by the journalist and recently-elected opposition mayor, Carlos Barrios.

On Dec. 27, the regulatory body closed the Astro 97.7 FM station, also run by Carlos Barrios. The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced through its social networks the measures taken by Conatel:

'The argument for the closure was the expired concession of both radio stations that have between 12 and 20 years in operation, respectively. However, Barrios described the action as "revenge" for having won as mayor of Ospino this past Nov.21."
