“In view of the significant increase of journalists forced to flee their countries in the region due to threats and attacks, UNESCO, with the support of key stakeholders, launched the Working Group on the Resilience and Comprehensive Safety of Journalists in Exile with the objective of improving coordination between international, regional and national organizations providing support to journalists in exile in Central America and Colombia.
[...] This cooperation mechanism will facilitate the promotion of synergies among stakeholders, the reduction of duplication of efforts and the development of a strategy to improve the comprehensive security of hundreds of journalists in refugee status in the region.

UNESCO has been developing a joint strategy framework and action plan to improve the welfare of journalists in exile and address their complex needs. On the other hand, it is hoped that such a document will serve as a tool to stimulate the development of joint initiatives and creative and innovative projects by the organizations that are part of the Working Group.”
