"Violence against the press in Mexico continues to be unstoppable. The director of a Mexican Caribbean news outlet suffered an attack on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at night. He escaped unharmed thanks to the fact that the attacker's weapon jammed at the moment he was going to shoot him. This saved him by mere seconds from joining the list of journalists killed in the Latin American nation that already reached four deaths in one month.
“I came for you, journalist. Your [expletive] is going to take you... I'm going to kill you like a dog,” were the last words spoken by a gunman who stopped in front of Netzahualcóyotl Cordero García, general director of the CGNoticias news outlet, as he drew his weapon to attack him in the middle of a street, in front of his home in the tourist city of Cancun."
