Venezuelan government orders closure of Radio Mundial after 70 years on air

"Radio Mundial, said goodbye this Monday [March 31] to its listeners in Venezuela after receiving an order from the authorities.

At 11 a.m., a host announced that the signal was being suspended because the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel, for its Spanish acronym) had decided to terminate its official concession.

As documented by the NGO Espacio Público, Radio Mundial, a radio station with 70 years of history, located in San Cristóbal-Táchira state, joins more than 200 media outlets that have been closed since Hugo Chávez and his party took power in Venezuela in 1999."
