Venezuelan Tamoa Calzadilla receives 2024 John S. Carroll Journalist of the Year Award

“Venezuelan journalist Tamoa Calzadilla was awarded the 2024 John S. Carroll Journalist of the Year Award from the News Literacy Project (NLP) for her courage in investigative journalism and leadership in fact-checking.

The John S. Carroll Journalist of the Year Award honors journalists who have made significant contributions to NLP's mission. Named in honor of one of the most revered newspaper editors of his generation, John S. Carroll, this award celebrates a journalism career that spanned four decades and left a lasting impact on the profession.

Calzadilla currently works as editor in chief of Factchequeado, a platform dedicated to combating disinformation in Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. The Venezuelan has worked both in her native Venezuela and in the United States, facing adverse conditions to defend truth and transparency.”
