"The executive director of the Inter American Press Association talked about the critical situation of freedom of expression and journalists in the region, especially in Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Mexico, and Brazil.

Violence against journalists in Latin America, the stigmatization of the press and journalism, the abuse of technology and the Internet to attack freedom of expression and the economic crisis of journalism are among the issues that the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) is making visible this May 3, World Press Freedom Day.

This was explained to Voice of America during an interview with the organization's executive director, Ricardo Trotti.

UNESCO chose the region as the meeting point for this year's celebrations, for the first time in 10 years. The venue for the event is Punta del Este, Uruguay."
