"The report prepared by the network Voces del Sur (VdS), presented on Sept. 6, 2022, recorded 4 thousand 931 alerts of violations of freedom of expression and press freedom and the right of access to information in 14 Latin American countries. In 2021, an average of 14 alerts per day were identified, or one every two hours.
The Sombra 2022 report is based on the alerts collected, classified and reported by the 14 member organizations of the network, including the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji, by its Portuguese acronym). The nearly 5 thousand alerts in 2021 represent an increase of 47 percent over the previous year (2020), when 3 thousand 350 cases were recorded."
