Honduran media outlet Criterio.hn denounces intimidation and threats of legal action by corporation

"Through an extensive letter, investors of Honduras Próspera Inc. try to intimidate [Honduran media outlet] Criterio.hn in order to impose a hegemonic discourse on the Employment and Economic Development Zones (ZEDE, for their acronym in Spanish), declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) of Honduras in September 2024.

On April 8, Nicholas Dranias, general counsel of Honduras Próspera Inc., sent a cease and desist letter to Criterio.hn's director, Emy Padilla, in response to the publication titled ‘Unconstitutionality does not stop Próspera: investors celebrate Landau's appointment as deputy secretary of State.’

Próspera Inc.'s legal counsel demands a series of 'required actions’ from Criterio.hn, which include removing ‘defamatory statements,’ publishing ‘a prominent retraction and correction acknowledging the errors,’ and refraining from issuing future publications that they consider ‘false or defamatory’ in relation to Honduras Próspera Inc. or Próspera ZEDE. Otherwise, they will proceed with legal action for alleged defamation and moral damages under Honduran law."
