Three suspects arrested in killing of Colombian journalist María Victoria Correa and her sister

Authorities have arrested three men suspected of killing Colombian journalist María Victoria Correa and her sister, María Norelia Correa, at a bakery in the city of Envigado.

The suspects—Juan Camilo Carvajal Burbano, known as “Gafas”; Deiby Yulián Posso Pretel, known as “Cali”; and Yuván Daniel Arenas Gómez, known as “El Mello”— were detained 15 days after the double homicide, according to officials.

One of the main lines of investigation points to a possible financial dispute involving a 17-year-old relative of the victims. According to authorities, this theory has gained traction based on preliminary analysis by the Technical Investigation Corps. While prosecutors and police have not officially confirmed this hypothesis, authorities are continuing to explore the possible connection as they work to determine the motive behind the killings.

The attack took place in a busy part of Envigado, which neighbors Medellín, heightening concerns among local residents. The community and press organizations have expressed outrage over the killing of María Victoria Correa, who dedicated her life to journalism.
