"The cancellation of funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) by decision of US President Donald Trump resulted in a loss of approximately US$150 million in annual support for journalism and the information ecosystem worldwide.

The figure comes from the report "Crisis in Journalism: The Impact of the US Government Funding Cuts on Global Media," published in late June by three consortia of leading media development organizations led by Internews Europe, BBC Media Action, and Free Press Unlimited, and supported by the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships.

According to the report, the Americas are the hardest hit region, with U.S. government funding accounting for more than 75% of donor funding to media outlets between 2020 and 2024. At least 60 media outlets have been directly affected by cuts to some 450 projects across 22 countries in the region."
