"The Human Rights Committee of the Vente Venezuela party reported on Saturday [Aug. 16] the declining health of journalist Víctor Ugas, who has been detained since the disputed re-election of Nicolás Maduro in August 2024.
The Voluntad Popular party warned last July that the journalist needed urgent medical attention, after suffering from fever for almost 30 days, inflammation and pain on the right side of his face, as well as episodes of depression and signs of dissociation from reality.
Ugas was arrested on Aug. 18, 2024, after a confrontation with pro-Chávez TikToker Emmanuel Marcano at a nightclub in Caracas. Shortly thereafter, he was brought before the courts without due process or an impartial investigation, according to the CNP [National College of Journalists]."
