Colombia’s Supreme Court upholds convictions in torture case of journalist Claudia Julieta Duque

"The Supreme Court's Criminal Cassation Chamber upheld the convictions of Emiro Rojas Granados, former deputy director of the now-defunct Administrative Department of Security, and Néstor Pachón Bermúdez, a former intelligence agent, for their role in the prolonged psychological torture of journalist Claudia Julieta Duque.

Duque was the target of a state persecution machine because of her investigations into the 1999 murder of comedian Jaime Garzón. The decision, presented by Judge Roberto Solórzano, upholds the rulings issued in the first and second instances, declaring the appeals filed by the defenses of Rojas and Pachón to be unfounded.

Rojas Granados was sentenced to 14 years in prison for aggravated psychological torture and conspiracy to commit a crime, while Pachón Bermúdez will serve 12 years for the crime of aggravated torture."
