Prosecutor orders closure of investigation of Peruvian journalist Gustavo Gorriti related to Lava Jato case

The Peruvian Public Prosecutor's Office has ordered the definitive closure of the investigations involving prosecutors Rafael Vela Barba and José Domingo Pérez, as well as journalist Gustavo Gorriti, in connection with the Lava Jato case in that country, according to the news site El Búho.

The decision was made by the Supreme Criminal Prosecutor's Office, which concluded that there was insufficient evidence to continue the investigation which was initiated based on statements made by former Prosecutor's Office employee Jaime Villanueva, who allegedly provided false information about Gorriti in relation to prosecutors Vela and Pérez, who were the most prominent members of the Lava Jato Special Team in Peru.

Villanueva allegedly suggested, for example, that a prosecutor provided significant information to the journalist in exchange for a favor.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, no evidence was found in any of the reviewed stages of the case to support criminal charges, leading to its definitive closure.
