Prosecutor in Uruguay closes case of journalist summoned to police station for defamation complaint

"The Maldonado Departmental Prosecutor's Office, 5th Division, dismissed the defamation complaint against El País newspaper journalist Sebastián Cabrera. The complaint had been filed by Richard Tesore, head of a civil society organization dedicated to marine wildlife conservation, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

The dismissal was based on the lack of evidence indicating that the crime of defamation had been committed, as the facts did not demonstrate the required malicious intent.
