Salvadoran newspapers El Diario de Hoy and Periódico Más! to end print editions after 90 years in circulation

"The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA), the Association of Journalists of El Salvador (APES), prominent local and international journalists, artists and readers at large highlighted the role and contributions of newspapers El Diario de Hoy and Periódico Más! following the announcement of the closure of their print editions after 90 years of circulation.

The IAPA said the move ‘represents a significant loss for the information ecosystem in a country where spaces for press freedom have severely declined and where journalists and critical voices face persecution and exile.’ APES expressed a similar view, noting that El Diario de Hoy was ‘one of the country’s longest-running news outlets, with more than 90 years of continuous circulation.’

The publications announced on Friday [March 27] the definitive closure of their print editions as part of a strategic shift toward a fully digital model. The change reflects evolving news consumption habits, increasingly oriented toward digital platforms and mobile devices."
