Honduran independent journalist and human rights activist Itsmania Pineda Platero reported that she has been receiving constant death threats over the phone, according to Reporters Without Borders.
Pineda's work organizing the "Journalism for Life" march on Dec. 13, which demanded investigations into the killings of 17 journalists in Honduras and defended of freedom of expression, motivated the threats. The march was violently repressed by soldiers outside the presidential palace in the capital Tegucigalpa.
After the military crackdown, 15 female protestors presented a complaint on Dec. 21, 2011, to the Special Prosecutor for Human Rights demanding sanctions against members of President Porfirio Lobo Sosa's presidential guard and the armed forces chief of staff Gen. René Osorio Canales, reported the newspaper La Tribuna.
Pineda is the director of the human rights organization Xibalba and said she has not received any protection from the authorities after reporting the threats.
