Freelance journalist and former Associated Press correspondent John Enders says that members of Venezuela's intelligence agency were harassing and attempting to intimidate him, the Press and Society Institute (IPYS) reports via IFEX.
Enders, who is in the country doing research for a book on Latin American history, was followed and photographed by members of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service while traveling in the western part of the country, El Universal explains.
According to IPYS, when opposition party members he was interviewing attempted to photograph the agents following him, “police officers then immediately appeared and took the memory cards out of their cameras.”
“It's the first time I've been followed or monitored since the Garcia Meza dictatorship in Bolivia,” Enders wrote in his blog.
