The photojournalist network Nuestra Mirada and Pictures of the Year International (POYi) have partnered to add a Latin American edition to the oldest photojournalism contest in the world.
The inaugural Latin America Visual Journalism Contest will take place in Quito, Ecuador, from March 14-18, 2011. The award ceremony will be in Cuenca for the Fiesta de la Imagen (Image Party) in July 2011, along with workshops, speakers, and exhibits.
The contest will be open from Jan. 24 – Feb. 28, 2011 for individual or group photography projects by citizens or permanent residents of Latin American countries. The contest has 16 categories, including news, portraits, sports, immigration, and multimedia. There are three special prizes: Latin American Photographer of the Year, the Human Rights Award, and the Nuestra Mirada Identity Award.
