Prosecutors have asked journalist José Pomacusi, the director of the magazine Poder y Placer (Power and Pleasure) and the TV show No Mentiras (No Lies) to explain his alleged connections to a terrorist organization in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, EFE reports. He has asked the prosecution to "clear his name" and "respect free expression," Los Tiempos adds.
Pomacusi denied any connections with the now disbanded organization, who prosecutors say were separatists planning to assassinate President Evo Morales. He said his interaction with an opposition campaign with alleged ties to the group was “strictly journalistic,” FM Bolivia and EFE explain.
According to the National Press Association, the government’s claims are part of a “policy of intimidation” intended to silence the journalist.
