“On March 7, in the fourth debate, the House of Representatives [of Colombia] approved the bill that creates the Fondo No es Hora de Callar (It is not time to be silent fund) for the prevention, protection and assistance of female journalists who are victims of gender violence. This fund is part of the reparation measures ordered by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Inter-American Court) in the case of Bedoya Lima et al. vs. Colombia, and is essential to reduce the deficit of differential and timely attention in these cases.

The fund will be administered by the Ministry of Equality and Equity, and will be regulated by the national government, with the participation of journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima and the Foundation for Press Freedom, FLIP. In addition, this initiative will have a budget of $500,000.00 annually to finance national, departmental and municipal programs to prevent, protect and assist female journalists who are victims of violence; and, on the other hand, safeguard the safety of those who are subject to special risk in the exercise of their profession.”
