Another Cuban journalist released from prison, arrives in Spain

The 15th journalist freed from prison in Cuba went into exile in Spain on Wednesday, Sept. 8., according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Víctor Rolando Arroyo Carmona was imprisoned in March 2003 during an island-wide crackdown on dissidents and journalists that was referred to as Black Spring. In July, President Raúl Castro agreed to release 52 political prisoners who were arrested during that 2003 roundup.

Five journalists arrested in March 2003, plus another journalist who was arrested later, remain in prison.
