Teresa Mioli is the administrative program coordinator for the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas. She is interested in press freedom, democratization, and investigative journalism in Latin America and is dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of independent news media to the health of democracies. She produces journalistic work with the aim of helping people to make informed decisions about their lives and societies and wants to make sure other journalists are able to do the same. She has Bachelors' degrees in Journalism and Plan II Honors (Liberal Arts) and a Master's degree in Latin American Studies, all from the University of Texas at Austin. She started her journalistic career at The Beaumont Enterprise in Southeast Texas where she last worked as a breaking news reporter.

Teresa Mioli es la coordinadora administrativa de programas del Centro Knight para el Periodismo en las Américas. Es una periodista con interés en la libertad de prensa, la democratización y el periodismo investigativo en América Latina y está dedicada a crear mayor consciencia sobre la importancia de los medios noticiosos independientes para la salud de las democracias. El objetivo de su trabajo periodístico es ayudar las personas para que tomen decisiones informadas sobre sus vidas y sus sociedades, y busca que otros periodistas tengan la posibilidad de hacer lo mismo. Teresa tiene una licenciatura en Periodismo y Artes liberales (Plan II Honors), y una maestría en Estudios Latinoamericanos, todos de la Universidad de Texas en Austin. Empezó su carrera en periodismo en The Beaumont Enterprise al sureste de Texas, en donde recientemente trabajó como reportera de noticias de última hora. Anteriormente ella fue la editora de LatAm Journalism Review del Centro Knight.

After taking a course on solutions journalism with the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, James Hall incorporated the approach for a story he wrote for environmental journalism site Mongabay. The story, which focused on the conservation efforts of a small NGO in Colombia called Techo de Agua (Roof of Water), prompted an alliance between the NGO and local researchers, aimed at finding real-world solutions for conservation efforts.
The Network for Diversity in Latin American Journalism (REDIPE in Spanish) is organizing the third Latin American Conference on Diversity in Journalism, a free online conference, on Oct. 20 and 21, 2023. The event will focus on five main topics focused on furthering diversity, equity and inclusion in the profession and coverage.

“Generative AI: What journalists need to know about ChatGPT and other tools” will be on Thursday Aug. 17, 2023 at 11 AM U.S. Central Time. This hour-long webinar will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation to Spanish and Portuguese.

The International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ), organized by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, will celebrate 25 years of discussions on the present and future of digital journalism on April 12 – 13, 2024. Since 1999, this unique hybrid annual conference has brought together hundreds of journalists, media executives, scholars and students both online and in person at the University of Texas at Austin.
After meeting during a Knight Center course on audio storytelling, two journalists collaborated across borders on an immersive podcast about a jailbreak of political prisoners that happened in the middle of Lake Titicaca in 1972. The course was a chance to meet, network and exchange experiences with colleagues working around the world.
"Advanced digital investigations: How reporters can dig into online information and sources” runs from June 12 to July 16. In five weeks, instructors Craig Silverman and Jane Lytvynenko will teach how to investigate social media profiles, digital ads, messaging apps, images, and video! You’ll also build a workflow to organize the collected material.
