Yahoo! Vice President Luke Beatty announced the search engine's still nascent Yahoo! Contributor Network, a freelance collaborative news network, was coming to Brazil, IDG Now! reported.
Beatty made the announcement during a presentation at Digital Age 2011 in São Paulo. According to Beatty, Brazilians can expect the contributor network by the end of 2011. "We have 700 contributors on Yahoo! Answers and we're going to choose the most active and respected," he explained to AdNews. Over time, every user will be able to add their own content, the site added.
Brazil's "sophisticated" consuming public and its network of "highly engaged" bloggers made it an ideal candidate for the contributor-based service, reported the website Making Of.
The Yahoo! Contributor Network launched in November 2010 when the search giant purchased Associated Content, a freelance journalist network that produces and pays for stories based on what Internet users search for. Beatty co-founded the company in 2005.
