Three journalists are among the first political prisoners to be released in Cuba, the Committee to Protect Journalists is reporting.
José Luis García Paneque, Pablo Pacheco Ávila, and Lester Luis González Pentón, independent Cuban journalists, were arrested in 2003 during a governmental crackdown on journalists, activists, and other dissidents.
The Cuban government said Wednesday that it will free 52 political prisoners.
Following the announcement, journalist Guillermo Fariñas said he would end his hunger strike, which he began more than four months ago in order to convince the government to release its political prisoners, reported the Miami Herald.
