Journalist detained in Chile for photographing student protests

Raúl Flores Castillo, director of the Chilean digital magazine Dilemas, claimed he was detained by police for covering a student protest in the capital of Santiago on Sept. 8, the magazine reported.

According to Flores' blog, he was detained for almost six hours after photographing Chilean national police breaking up the protest. Police loaded Flores on to a special forces bus that took him to a police station. "I shouted that I was a journalist, showed my credentials, but it was all in vain," he said in an article for Dilemas.

The website El Cuidadano added that the national police erased Flores' photos during his detention.
