The professional association of journalists in Panama demands improved security and protection for citizens after a news host survived a kidnapping attempt on the evening of Friday, Jan. 11, according to the newspaper La Estrella.
Journalist Guillermo Antonio "Ñito" Adames, host RPC TV's program Debate Abierto, claimed that two suspects wearing police uniforms stopped him while he was driving his car in a residential zone in Panama City, the capital. The suspects forced their way into his car and the journalist escaped by jumping out of the vehicle while it was still in motion, according to La Estrella.
The journalist said that it could have been an act of intimidation despite the fact that the suspects threatened him with a gun, according to the newspaper Prensa.
