The Bartolomé Carrasco Briseño Regional Center for Human Rights, located in Mexico, denounced new threats against journalist Pedro Matías Arrazola, correspondent for Proceso magazine in the state of Oaxaca and anchor of an online news show.
The journalist attributes the threats to a story he published about a visit to Oaxaca made by the country's subsidized milk director, Héctor Pablo Ramírez Puga Leyva. On Matías' behalf, the human rights center asked authorities to investigate the threats, intervene through the Mechanism for the Protection of Reporters, and guarantee the right of journalism in Oaxaca, located in southern Mexico.
Matías and several of his colleagues received threats last May after revealing electoral fraud attempts in Oaxaca.
Oaxaca has become one of the states with the most threats against members of the press in Mexico. On July 17, a journalist was assassinated in Oaxaca for covering the the activites of the drug market.
