A National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) judge ruled that a Puerto Rican newspaper, El Vocero, illegally fired 107 employees and closed its circulation department, according to Editor & Publisher.
The newspaper has long been in a dispute with the local journalists union, an affiliate of the Communications Workers of America, explained the NLRB, adding that the judge found numerous other violations, including "making unilateral changes to employees' health, pension and vacation benefits, work assignments, and severance packages without notifying or bargaining with the union."
The NLRB office in San Juan is seeking an injunction to force the newspaper to re-hire the fired employees.
