Radio producer sentenced to 15 years for kidnapping Venezuelan journalist

A Venezuelan court sentenced Francisco Contreras to 15 years in prison for his role in the April 2010 kidnapping of Globovisión journalist Luis Núñez, El Universal reports.

Contreras, who worked for CNB 102.3FM, was charged with planning and participating in the kidnapping. According to El Nacional, the alleged mastermind behind the crime, Giovanny Romero, remains in jail awaiting trial.

Both Núñez and Contreras were kidnapped April 19, 2010. The kidnappers sought approximately $230,000 in ransom, but when the exchange was being made the police arrested Romero, who confessed that producer was also involved in the plot.
