Reporters in Guatemala threatened while covering mining conflict

Journalists from the Center for Independent Media in Guatemala claimed they were threatened by employees of the mining company Exmingua, a subsidiary of the Canadian company Radious Gold Group in association with the U.S.-based KCA, reported the Center for Investigative Reporting in Guatemala (CERIGUA).

According to CERIGUA, the reporters were threatened when they photographed and filmed inside the mine, where a conflict boils between locals opposed to the project and company workers. The Center for Independent Media claims that a retired soldier who works as a guard at the mine threatened to lynch and cut off the hands of the reporters to keep them from photographing the area.
