"In a posthumous tribute, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva awarded Brazilian native Bruno Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips the insignia of the Order of Rio Branco, one of the highest honors of the Brazilian government that recognizes meritorious services and civic virtues that stood out in the country. The ceremony took place this Tuesday (Nov. 21), at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasília.

Bruno Pereira and Dom Phillips were brutally murdered in June 2022, in Vale do Javari Indigenous Land, in Amazonas. The case, which is monitored by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), remains unsolved."
