Aggressions against the press in Mexico increase 52% compared to previous government, Article 19 says in semi-annual report

"In the first half of 2022, ARTICLE 19 recorded 331 attacks against journalists and news outlets. In comparison, the first half of 2016 ARTICLE 19 recorded 218 attacks against the press. This means that in the same period of the government of Enrique Peña Nieto and Andrés Manuel López Obrador there is an increase of 51.83% of aggressions against the press.

During these first six months, cases of lethal violence, displacements, stigmatization and online violence stand out for their seriousness and increase. In this first semester, 12 journalists were murdered, nine of which we identified evidence linking them to journalistic work. Although as of today, six more murders have been registered, which this organization continues to document."
