"The closing of the press bargaining agreement signed by the business chambers and the Union of Press Workers of Buenos Aires (UTPBA, by its Spanish acronym) for a 60% increase in basic salaries did not succeed in calming down the union. [...] The sector workers have lost purchasing power that, as of May this year, comes to a 48% drop compared to January 2016. During 2021 alone, the drop in real wages reached 8.6%. [...] For this reason, the workers of Página/12 have been carrying out a plan of struggle that has already accumulated fourteen 24-hour strikes. The last one coincided with the 35th anniversary of the newspaper and it was an opportunity to hold a rally at the door and garner support. On May 31, Clarín workers joined the strike to reject the agreement signed by the UTPBA and to demand an improvement of what was signed."
