"The Federal Police (PF) of Brazil said this Mon. (Jan. 23) that Rubens Villar Coelho, alias 'Colombia,' was the mastermind behind the murders in the Amazon region of the British journalist Dom Phillips and the Indigenous affairs expert Bruno Araújo Pereira.
'I have no doubt that Villar Coelho was the criminal mastermind. We have proof that he gave ammunition to Jefferson and Amarildo - actual perpetrators -, that matches the one found in the case,' said Alexandre Fontes, head of the Federal Police in the Amazon, in a press conference.
According to the police chief, who gave the press conference in Manaus, the regional capital of the Amazon, Villar Coelho 'paid for the initial defense lawyer' of Amarildo da Costa Oliveira, who confessed to the murder, as well as his accomplice Jefferson da Lima Silva."
