"A court in Bahia has ordered the digital newspaper Poder360 to remove the name and image of a police chief mentioned in a report by the outlet. This information, published by the outlet, was confirmed by CNN Brasil with the Court of Justice of Bahia.
According to the newspaper, the police chief in question was working on an investigation in which one of the parties was represented by a lawyer who had previously served as the officer's own defense counsel in another case. This practice, the newspaper reported, constituted a conflict of interest, given that the police chief failed to recuse herself from handling the case.
In a statement sent to CNN Brasil, the Court of Justice of Bahia states that the case involves a claim for damages, that the decision is of an 'interlocutory nature and remains subject to appeal,' and that the proceedings are being conducted under judicial secrecy.
Poder360, on its website, stated that the order was complied with, but emphasized that 'the act represents a restriction on freedom of the press and censorship of journalistic work.'"
