Due to murders and attacks of press workers, Association of Journalists of Honduras withdraws from protection mechanism

"The president of the Association of Journalists of Honduras (CPH), Dagoberto Rodríguez, reported this Monday that the organization is withdrawing from the protection mechanism for employees dedicated to this area due to the large number of cases of murders and assaults that go unpunished.

With the recent murder of journalist Luis Almendares in Comayagua, the central zone of the country, there are now 87 communicators and press workers who have been viciously murdered or attacked from 2001 to date; 90 percent of them remain in impunity, Rodríguez said."
