El País remembers journalists who died in Mexico in a violent way in 2021

"In 2021, nine journalists were killed in Mexico. This number ranks the country as the deadliest in the world for the press, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

[...] In 2021, [Mexico] was the sixth country with the most unsolved crimes; the five [countries] at the top are at war. 'The conclusion after three years of the López Obrador government is that he has not only been unable to solve the dozens of murders of journalists, defenders and activists, but has done very little to prevent them,' Jan-Albert Hoosten, CPJ representative in Mexico, said.

There are no sentences nor trials for the nine murders, and in only two cases there are detainees. EL PAÍS spoke with family, friends, colleagues and prosecutors about the nine reporters. These are their stories."
