Brazilian federal police arrest suspect in the murder of journalist Dom Phillips

"Suspected of drug trafficking and illegal purchase of fish, Peruvian Rubens Villar Coelho, known as Colombia, was arrested this Thursday (July 7, 2022) when he presented himself to the Federal Police in Tabatinga (AM). He is singled out by the investigation of the murder of the Indigenous issues expert Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips as one of the possible masterminds of the crime.

Upon being informed that he was being investigated in connection with the murders of the British journalist, the Indigenous issues expert and also the former Funai collaborator Maxciel Pereira, Coelho presented himself to the authorities and was arrested, in the act, carrying false documents  a crime with a non-bailable penalty that can entail four years in detention. The information comes from the reporter Sérgio Ramalho, sent to Vale do Javari by the Tim Lopes Program, from Abraji, to investigate the circumstances of Dom's death."
