"On Aug. 2, the Superior Criminal Court of Florencia, [department of] Caquetá, confirmed the acquittal of a person linked to the murder of journalist Luis Peralta and his wife, Sofía Quintero. This decision stems from the unjustified delays and ineffectiveness of the Attorney General's Office, which, despite having various pieces of evidence, failed to structure a strategy that would allow it to prove without a doubt the defendant's participation. This investigative deficiency is a setback in the fight against impunity for the murders of journalists in Colombia, especially in this case in which, eight years after the crime, no significant progress has been made.

In this second instance, a new evaluation of the evidence was made. However, the Court found that the Prosecutor's Office only provided clues but no direct evidence linking the defendant to the homicide. With this assessment, the Court confirmed the acquittal of the defendant for the crime of aggravated homicide and declared the statute of limitations for the crimes of attempted homicide, and carrying and possessing weapons."
