Grupo Extra from Costa Rica closes newspaper, radio and TV channel operations

"Grupo Extra, owner of Diario Extra, TV42 and radio América, announced this Wednesday [May 31], at 4:09 p.m., the closure of its operations starting Thursday, June 1.

Iary Gómez Quesada, general manager of the company, attributed the closure to the 'lack of economic reactivation of the country,' which caused, he alleged, that they did not achieved the 'necessary sales' for the newspaper or the required advertising. He said so in a message in the last edition of Extra Formato, a news program of Extra TV, on channel 42.

Hours earlier, in a statement published on Facebook, the company, which has 150 employees, stated its thanks to its readers, viewers and listeners for accompanying them for 45 years."
