SOS Journalistes, a press freedom group in Haiti, said it is "scandalized" by authorities' inaction in the case of journalist Jocelyn Justin who is awaiting surgery in Cuba after he was seriously injured in a gang shooting while covering the re-opening of a hospital in Port-au-Prince on Dec. 24, 2024.

In a press release, the organization said Justin did not undergo a maxillofacial operation planned for July 2025. SOS Journalistes said he "is bleeding from the mouth" and "when he opens his mouth to try to speak, it gives off a 'foul and unbearable odor.'"

The organization said Cuba doctors refer Justin to Haitian authorities and that no new date has been scheduled for the surgery. SOS Journalistes called on Haitian authorities to aid Justin without delay.
